Creditor Claims Specialist – Bilingual

Job Description:

This role is responsible for handling all creditor claims (i.e., bankruptcies, garnishments, requests for information) affecting Sun Life of any of its affiliated companies.

What will you do?

  • assessing creditor claims from various creditors to determine if the claim is valid and enforceable.

  • searching company's records to identify the debtor named in the creditor claim. This includes, clients, advisors, employees and anyone Sun Life may pay money to who is a debtor.

  • updating information on creditor database computer system.

  • taking action to ensure appropriate restrictions are placed on all policies, investments, income or payments the debtor may receive from Sun Life (i.e. emailing business area instructing them to add restrictions and providing them with details about the type of restriction to add and the duration of the restriction and how to respond to the demand).

  • knowing when a particular product owned by a debtor is protected from seizure.

  • working with the business area to accurately calculate and remit money payable to a creditor.

  • frequently communicating with creditors, policyholders, legal professionals and other departments.

  • responding to creditors verbally and in writing about Sun Life's response to their demand.

  • retrieving and compiling information and documents and responding to various requests for information (i.e. Police Services Production Orders, Court Order, Canada Revenue Agency Requirements for Information).

What do you need to succeed?

  • the creditor claims specialist must be able to prioritize a high volume of documents to meet strict deadlines. This is of particular importance in responding to various courts and enforcement offices.

  • attention to detail is very important due to the complexity of claims. A missed document or not understanding or appreciating the significance of a document could expose Sun Life to paying money if Sun Life pays the debtor ignoring or missing a creditor's claim or restriction.

  • adaptability and flexibility are key to success in this role as well as strong communication skills. Must be a strong team player, with a high interest in working in a cross-functional team environment

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the Microsoft Office 365 suite, Customer Service Workbench and Sun Life's operations is an asset. The ability to speak, read and write French fluently is also an asset. Legal or administrative education is an asset

  • Bilingualism (French, English) required- interactions with English-speaking customers or partners

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted.  It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.  In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.  Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
